How To Make Colorful Coasters!

If you guys saw the Beer Coasters I made this past holiday season, you'll remember that I have had some extra white titles hanging around here. There is something really pleasing about painting bright colors on a smooth white surface, isn't there? Here's a quick and easy way to make some really fun and colorful coasters using tiles, bright acrylic paint, and Q-tips!!
Gather as many white tiles as you'll want for your set (I made 4, for now) and an array of bright acrylic paint. Make sure your tiles are clean and dry, grab a handful of Q-tips, and start dotting!
Dip your Q-tip into your first color and dot! I found that re-dipping my Q-tip in paint between each dot helped. Do all of your tiles in your first color and let them set for a few minutes before starting the next color...
Keep layering on the colors and at around the third or fourth color begin to make a few of the dots a little bit bigger in size by swirling the Q-tip when dotting...
Here's what mine looked like when I had all of my colors on!
Then I gave them all several coats of Modpodge, followed by a few coats of glossy clear lacquer spray (any kind of clear-coat spray from the craft store works here).

I cut some little half moon shaped pieces of felt later on and glued them onto the bottoms of my tiles (4 per tile) so they rest quietly and don't scratch my tabletops! ;)
I love the bright playful feel of these guys:) I feel like they really say "Party!". I can't wait to really use them the next time we have a few friends over.

Happy Wednesday!
XO

  1. I love this idea! I've been wanting to make coasters for a long time. The problem is that my husband collects coasters from Breweries, so we have them coming out of our ears!

  9. Just found your blog through a beautiful mess and love your blog already! I can't to try these coasters, they seriously do look so fun! My boyfriend and I just moved to the west coast with only a few suit cases, so coasters were definitely not on the list of things we brought with us haha.
