Hello Granny

This is sort of a sequel to last week's Learning As I Go... post. I'm sure some of you looked at my basic squares last week and shook your head as I spoke of putting them together to make a blanket. You'd have been correct to doubt my success. Project FAIL. After doing a little more research I learned that this would be super tricky, I had sort of "put the cart before the horse". My edges weren't even, nor did they have a clean border for chaining together. So with a heavy heart I put them to the side and decided to properly watch a few more tutorials and learn to make Granny Squares.
I found Mikeyssmail 's awesome granny square tutorial and after watching it several times, I got the hang of it. This was the right way to go, and I was excited. I felt confident that I could successfully complete this project as long as I put in the time and effort.
With the help of my trusty supervisor, Miss Pea, I've completed 14 Squares. If I'm allowed to say so, I'm very proud. This is one of the first "long term" projects that I've ever attempted. It's a new feeling to sit and work on something, knowing that you have miles to go before you can enjoy the feeling of completion. I know it's worth it though, and I can already feel the excitement of finishing the whole blanket.

Do you enjoy taking on long term projects? I'd love to hear some of your experiences.

  1. I think your granny squares look great. I'd like to do a blanket too, but I think I'll probably have to reteach myself how to make them because it's been years. Thanks for linking to the video. I'm excited to see your blanket when it's all finished. :)

I literally had no idea when i started and now I feel like I really learned the whole process (I always like to share someone's work if I feel it's as successful as this video was, ya know?) Anyhow, I hope you do give it a try, I'd love to see if you do!! I'll definitely be sharing the finished product here;)
